Singapore Cosplay Club held its Asia Cosplay Meet (ACM) and World Cosplay Summit (WCS) qualifiers at Orchard Central yesterday, as a precursor to what’s arguably the defining cosplay event of the year – Cosfest X.1.
It was an event that saw the community rallying and showing up in force to lend their support to the contestants, who rocked the stage and wowed the crowd with their awesome performances, elaborate costumes, and home-made set pieces (one performance included a smoke machine, while another featured an armor suit with strobe lights).
There were plenty of crowd pleasers amongst the ACM and WCS competitors, who brought a fair share of skill and showmanship to bear. It was especially impressive to note that the cosplayers sallied forth without missing a beat, despite the poor acoustics which drowned out their pre-recorded performance tracks, a tossed wig, and collapsing “portals” on stage.
Here are some highlights from the event.

The Sengoku Basara group, putting on an impressive display of swordsmanship.

The fall of the Devil King of the Sixth Heaven - and neatly choreographed too!

The Naruto group, reeling from "Sexy no Jutsu" shenanigans.

The Soul Calibur team - Ashlotte and Kilik duking it out.

Here comes a new challenger - Nightmare!

The Saint Seiya group, replete with their blessed "Cloth" and elaborate armor.

Down goes the backdrop, but they don't even break a sweat. XD

Oh the drama! The pathos!

The full line-up of ACM contestants.

Erza Scarlett and Jellal, re-enacting the scene from the Tower of Heaven arc in Fairy Tail.

The Dragon Nest team, portraying characters from a Korean MMO that's yet to be released in Singapore.

And finally, the Vocaloid group. Boy, can they sing and dance.

The WCS contestants.
The finalists for ACM were Sengoku Basara, Soul Calibur and Saint Seiya, and they’ll be squaring off again at Cosfest X.1. The results for the WCS selection, too, will be released at Cosfest.
So if you’re keen to support your cosplay friends, and to bear witness to another chapter of cosplay history in the making, be sure to keep the 25th and 26th of June free!
So until next time, cheerio!
