Mu Yin Hua (墓 阴花)
Servant: | Rider |
Magecraft: | Taoist Necromancy (Spirit Channeling) |
Notes: | Yin is the reluctant young heiress of the Mu clan and AF:K’s protagonist.
She is petite, slight of frame, with long brown hair that reaches the small of her back. She often wears one-piece dresses in muted hues with calf-length boots. A fresh-faced, earnest individual with an intense desire to change the world, she hopes to minimize the bloodshed and end the Holy Grail War peacefully. Her ancestors served as fortune tellers and overseers of funerary rites for the triads in Hong Kong, and eventually traded their occult knowledge and services for material and political gain. They are an influential group in the criminal underground, and run a chain of funeral homes and antique stores which also serve as a front for a lucrative smuggling business dealing in ancient artifacts excavated from ruins in mainland China. She was named heir apparent to the Mu clan from a young age, having been born with the Eyes of Heaven (天眼) and the Tongue of Earth (地舌) – abilities that let her see into the spirit realm and to converse with the dead. While she is proficient in her clan’s magecraft and has participated in seances before, she is reluctant to use her powers as an early experience where she was visited by the ghosts of those wronged by her family left her scarred. She tries to steer clear of the unlawful dealings of her family, and attempts to make reparations wherever she can. She hopes to eventually study political science overseas and to make a difference in the secular world. |
Fighting Style: | Yin’s magic is mostly defensive in nature.
It includes the casting of bindings, exorcisms and protective wards using prayer strips by invoking the Mystic Gates (奇门遁甲). |
Wang Tai Yang (王 太阳)
Servant: | Archer |
Magecraft: | Taoist Alchemy |
Notes: | A young man in his early twenties with a noble features, bleached, neck-length white hair and a confident gaze. He’s dressed in a white tank top over scuffed black denim jeans, with a red leather motorcycle jacket. A leather cord from which hangs a metallic disc with the yin-yang symbol adorns his neck.
Yang is a rookie cop from a splinter family that once dabbled in Taoist Alchemy, he was planted in the Mu clan to keep tabs on their less than savory dealings. He fell in love with Yin, and now fights to keep her safe. His school of Taoist Alchemy focuses on the creation of arcane pills that confer short-lived physical enhancements and chi infused martial arts. |
Fighting Style: | Magically enhanced close combat techniques using Five Elements Fist (五行拳) style.
He can utilize the Water, Fire and Metal forms, but is not proficient in the Wood or Earth forms. By consuming pills created through his magecraft, he can greatly enhance reaction time and speed, read magical auras, detect invisible objects and turn his body light as a feather. He can also temporarily supercharge his magic circuits, but at the cost of some of his lifespan. |
Mu Tie Hua (墓 铁花)
Servant: | Berserker |
Magecraft: | Taoist Necromancy (Blood Magic and Corpse Manipulation) |
Notes: | Tie Hua is tall, well-endowed, and garbed in a black cheongsam with high slits that leaves little to the imagination. The cheongsam is embroidered with the Mu crest and blood red chrysanthemums.
She is Yin’s under-appreciated elder sister and the dark horse of the Mu clan, having been born during an inauspicious hour under the star of misfortune. A life of bad luck has hardened her attitude, and she is always seen with a disapproving scowl. She is also not opposed to harming or killing people who cross her. While she has managed to hone her talent in magecraft and is indeed the strongest necromancer the Mu clan has produced in this generation, she possesses neither the Eyes of Heaven nor the Tongue of Earth, and thus will never inherit the clan leadership. This stigma has left her unfulfilled and bitter, but she has managed to make the most of this in her capacity as Incense Master of the Mu clan. She has acquired the unwavering loyalty of the lower ranked clan soldiers, binding them to her with a Blood Oath sworn through necromancy. It is this Blood Oath that powers much of her magic and allows her to participate as a Master in the Holy Grail War. |
Fighting Style: | Tie Hua is capable of forming paper prayer strips into a sword, and is highly proficient in the use of Taoist Six Harmony Sword Form (六合玉川剑).
However, she prefers to engage enemies from a distance, using prayer strips to cast decoys and binding spells, and then using summoning and reanimation spells to inflict malevolent ghosts and vengeful jiangshi upon her opponents. |
Aurelia Sforza
Servant: | Saber |
Magecraft: | La Cartomanzia (Tarot Magecraft) and Baptismal Rites |
Notes: | A bespectacled woman in her early thirties with clearly defined and chiseled features, flowing blonde hair and purple hued eyes. She wears a snug greatcoat of black suede material over a white business shirt and immaculate black skirt, black stockings and dress shoes. The wire rims of her glasses are gold and carved with elaborate etchings, and an ornate golden crucifix adorns her neck.
The Sforza family’s nature is one of adaptability, and as their scion, Aurelia is schooled in a broad spectrum of Hermetic magecraft. As diplomatic magi functioning as intermediaries between the Holy Church and the magi of the world, the Sforzas venture where the Holy Church might find it inconvenient to act, and that is why Aurelia was appointed the representative for the Church’s interests in this Holy Grail War. She exudes an air of austere authority, and her personality is ascerbic almost to a fault. This often puts her in conflict with her flamboyant Servant. |
Fighting Style: | Aurelia’s magecraft is La Cartomanzia – the use of illustrated Tarot cards for visualizing magical effects and imposing her will on the world.
Each Tarot deck is divided into the 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana, and by combining Major Arcana and Minor Arcana cards in specific configurations, she can use a wide variety of spells for attack, defense and utility. She can also use the Baptismal Rites of the Holy Church, and carries several Black Keys granted by the Holy Church in a valise case. |
Eustace Evans
Servant: | Caster |
Magecraft: | Druidism |
Notes: | A well-groomed gentleman in his late 30s dressed in an immaculately pressed suit, tie and a bowler hat, Eustace Evans is an agent of MI-6 and part of a branch of British Intelligence that specializes in dealing with occult mysteries and paranormal occurrences.
He is a nominal member of the Clock Tower and part of a circle of Welsh druids descended from the bloodline of Taliesin. He is a man of dignity and honor who chafes at the manipulative and cruel behavior of Caster, but tolerates it the sake of winning the Holy Grail War for Queen and country. He chose to focus on the shapeshifting aspect of druidism for its utility in the field, and as such is far less proficient in the nature manipulation techniques of his magecraft. |
Fighting Style: | Eustace is a competent shot with the pistol, a lethal knife fighter, and an expert at boxing and jujitsu.
He can also augment his physical abilities through the invocation of druid spells and shapeshifting. His mastery is such that he can take on individual aspects of animals such as their sense of smell or superior eyesight, or change his body into that of an actual beast – typically that of a pigeon or greyhound, though he can also turn into far larger and deadlier species such as the lion, brown bear or a primal aspect of nature. |
Gaspard Laveau
Servant: | Lancer |
Magecraft: | Gematria |
Notes: | A swarthy skinned magus from New Orleans with slicked back black haired, a perfectly groomed anchor-style beard, and piercing green eyes. He is dressed in a snazzy white zoot suit with a black shirt and green cravat tie, and several thick, rune-carved rings adorn his fingers.
Gaspard is a roguish free agent hired as “insurance” by MI-6, a magus whose unique abilities make him the most ideally suited to covertly back up British operations during this Holy Grail War. Gaspard is generally uninterested in the outcome of this politically motivated skirmish. He’s paid to be there, and he intends to bail if things go south. A meticulous planner through-and-through, he has already prepared his exit from the battlefield, and even summoned a Servant capable of traversing international waters just for that purpose. |
Fighting Style: | His magecraft of Gematria – the arcane underpinnings behind geometry and numbers, is one that allows a practitioner to calculate and grasp mana flow within observable range, and to direct mana along chosen vectors.
While this magecraft is more support rather than combat oriented, Gaspard is able to wield it with sufficient finesse to achieve a variety of effects. He also possesses several mystic codes and arcane tools he can use to compensate for his low offensive power. |
Yakumo Yokoi
Servant: | Assassin |
Magecraft: | Technomancy |
A 14-year-old boy with tousled brown hair, wearing a yellow parka that’s two sizes too big, black jeans, a white anime t-shirt on the inside, and a pair of oversized yellow cat-ear headphones.
He has a far away look on his face, and seems to be constantly deep in thought. Yakumo is a genius magus, but his ability to communicate and hold meaningful conversations with others is stunted by the maddening chatter of The Voice of Progress – the rhythm of machines and the inexorable pulse of technology that he can hear since birth. His headphones constantly play calming white noise, canceling out these whispers and soothing his nerves, keeping him from being fully overwhelmed and entering a berserk state. The headphones also have jacks for wires that allow him to connect to the machines in the back of his panel van. His personality changes when he is plugged into the machines, which form a computer network capable of vastly amplifying his technomancy powers. He becomes more alert and confident, but also aggressive and sadistic – the very definition of a rage gamer. While he is the youngest among the Masters of this Holy Grail War, he is also the most in tune with modern technology and probably the most proficient in their use. He has assimilated almost all the information on the Internet (at that time), and is a master of 26 different languages including dead languages and ancient script. He is an avid video gamer, and a big anime fan. |
|
Fighting Style: | Technomancy is a purely support type magecraft.
While Yakumo has learned rudimentary martial arts from the Internet for self-defense and taught himself how to shoot using a handgun, he has almost zero combat power in a real battle among magi. This makes him heavily reliant on the help of others, especially Assassin, to survive. However, his magecraft is an incredibly useful tool for surveillance and control. When he connects with the network, it manifests as “The Ghost in the Machine”. His consciousness and ability to process complex information expands greatly, allowing him to see everything as if they were on HUD. He is able to take hold of any technological device within a 1 km radius, or remote clusters of technological devices as long as they are no more than 10 meters apart. He can also extend his reach by using nearby power lines, signal relays and telephone lines. |
