{"id":408,"date":"2016-05-13T04:03:24","date_gmt":"2016-05-13T04:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/neotokyoproject.com\/doujima\/?p=408"},"modified":"2016-05-13T04:03:24","modified_gmt":"2016-05-13T04:03:24","slug":"doujin-market-sees-record-13000-visitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neotokyoproject.com\/doujima\/doujin-market-sees-record-13000-visitors\/","title":{"rendered":"Doujin Market sees record 13,000 visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Doujin Market (Doujima) 2016, Singapore&#8217;s largest celebration of popculture\u00a0inspired art, illustration and self-publishing, drew to a resounding close last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place on 7th and 8th May, the two-day event at Suntec City saw some 13,000 fans of anime, comics\u00a0and manga, as well as trade and industry visitors, up from 8,000 at *SCAPE the year before.<\/p>\n<p>It also played host to some 100 artists and creators from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong\u00a0Kong, Japan and USA, and included myriad activities to engage, excite and inspire youth artists such as\u00a0seminars, networking opportunities and Singapore&#8217;s first Visual Novel Hub.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_410\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/neotokyoproject.com\/doujima\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/djm16_hall11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-410\" class=\"wp-image-410\" src=\"https:\/\/neotokyoproject.com\/doujima\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/djm16_hall11.jpg\" alt=\"djm16_hall11\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-410\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The hall was packed with excited fans Saturday and Sunday.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe knew the move to Suntec City was the right choice,\u201d said Jason Koh, convention producer for Doujin\u00a0Market and Account Director of Neo Tokyo Project. \u201cWe were amazed by the outpouring of interest from\u00a0artists, stakeholders and fans. It&#8217;s affirmation that there&#8217;s real demand for Doujin Market, and we are\u00a0committed to making it the region&#8217;s definitive pop-culture inspired art, illustration and self-publishing event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Supporting Doujin Market this year was Noise Movement, an initiative of the National Arts Council which\u00a0provides seed funding to ground-up programs to catalyze arts creation, participation and appreciation among\u00a0young people. In addition to presenting the Visual Novel Hub, Afterthought Studios also held some 50 portfolio\u00a0reviews for those aspiring to produce their own content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe met many young talents, and gave them sound advice on how to take their art to the next level,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cThere&#8217;s a lot of potential here \u2013 just a lack of mentors willing to entertain new ideas and new avenues for\u00a0self-expression.
